Eugene Pao is Hong Kong’s premier jazz guitarist, a status he has established and maintained over the last three decades. He was the first Hong Kong jazz musician to sign with an international label, releasing his debut album 'By The Company You Keep' under Flying Records. Since the 1980s, he has been recognized as Hong Kong's own "guitar hero" and has remained at the forefront of promoting jazz in the region. His career has taken him around the world to perform at international jazz festivals, concert halls, and renowned jazz clubs, in addition to his extensive work in recording projects. Interestingly, despite being Hong Kong’s most famous jazz musician, his first recollection of organized sound was that of classical music. Over the years, Pao has recorded and performed on stage with an illustrious list of jazz greats, including Jack DeJohnette, Michael Brecker, John Patitucci, Joey Calderazo, Marc Johnson, Eddie Gomez, Terumasa Hino, Bob Berg, Ulf Wakenius, Mads Vinding, Ernie Watts, Martin Taylor, James Moody, Bill Bruford, Jeff Berlin, Bobby McFerrin, Eric Marienthal, Richard Galiano, Toninho Horta, Georgie Fame, and Laura Fygi. He recently performed at CODA Jazz Kissa.
