The Alex Woods Quartet was formed five years ago during bandleader Alex Woods’ tenure living and studying in New York City. The ensemble features a lineup of American musicians Billy Test (piano) and Marty Kenney (bass), alongside Danish drummer Andreas Svendsen, all of whom were fellow students at the Manhattan School of Music. During a three-year period in New York, the group worked regularly throughout the city’s prominent jazz clubs, including notable performances at the Cornelia Street Café. The quartet’s repertoire consists largely of original music composed by Woods, heavily influenced by his urban experiences and the New York jazz scene. Beyond the quartet, Alex Woods is an accomplished composer for Big Band, string quartet, and solo harp. His musical contributions have been featured on various international broadcasts, including BBC TV and Radio and Jazz FM Canada. A dedicated educator, Woods holds a teaching position at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in the UK and frequently serves as a guest artist and clinician at schools and universities worldwide, sharing his expertise with aspiring musicians.
