Lionel Pinard
French pianist, accordionist, and composer Lionel Pinard is a graduate of the Conservatory Regional Influence de Rueil-Malmaison. As the leader of the NoMads Ensemble, he bridges the musical landscapes of Taipei and Paris. His artistry seamlessly blends traditional folk elements with jazz improvisation, notably seen in his collaborations with erhu player Luo Chang-qin. Pinard’s work remains rooted in a pure creative spirit, offering a vibrant fusion of world music and contemporary jazz.
Lionel Pinard (李歐) was raised in an artistic French family and began his musical journey with the piano at the age of six. In 1993, he graduated from the prestigious Conservatory Regional Influence de Rueil-Malmaison (CRR de Rueil-Malmaison) in the Paris region. He is highly accomplished in piano, accordion, and composition. As the leader of the NoMads Ensemble, Pinard has fostered unique collaborations within the Taiwanese music scene through extensive exchange with local musicians. Splitting his time between Taipei and Paris for both work and life, his creative philosophy remains rooted in blending traditional and folk music with jazz elements and improvisation. His discography includes 'Taiwan Jazz & World' (Buda Musique/Universal) and 'Taiwan Erhu' (Buda Musique/Universal) in collaboration with erhu player Lo Chang-chin, 'Shantia Ditu' (The NoMads Ensemble), 'Big Big Intersecting Clusters' (Flaneur Daguerre), and 'Fluent, Are You Fluent?' (FLUENT Live Hip Hop). He has performed at prominent venues such as Blue Note Taipei and Sappho Live Jazz.
