Andy Wu is a Hong Kong-born pianist, independent musician, and producer with a foundational background in classical piano. Currently based in Japan, he is pursuing advanced studies in jazz piano at the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music. His musical style is deeply influenced by a diverse range of genres, including Swing Jazz, Funk, and R&B, while he continuously delves into the traditions of jazz to explore the essence and language of swing. Wu has participated in various jazz ensembles, such as Laborious Hardbop and the Timothy Wan Quartet, and is an active figure in Tokyo’s prominent jazz clubs and session culture, where he is inspired by the energy of live improvisation and interaction. In his musical practice—particularly in his tribute performances to the legendary Bill Evans—he views music as a philosophy of listening, spatial awareness, and musical dialogue. By balancing a respect for the classics with his own personal expression, Andy seeks to transform his influences into an authentic and immediate sound. He approaches every performance and every audience member with the dedicated spirit of 'Isshou Kenmei' (devoting one's life) and the 'Ichi-go ichi-e' (once-in-a-lifetime encounter) mindset, striving to share a truly sincere live jazz experience.
