UK saxophonist and composer Alex Woods, a multi-award winner who has collaborated with stars like Jamie Cullum, brings his original modern jazz vision to Hong Kong. Joined by local standouts Bowen Li, Nelson Fung, and Samuel Chan, the Alex Woods Quartet delivers a sophisticated program of original compositions and influential standards. This performance showcases Woods’ ability to blend rigorous academic training with global touring experience into a distinctive, personal contemporary jazz sound.

Alex Woods is a multi-award-winning saxophonist, composer, and arranger originally from the United Kingdom. A seasoned musician with extensive international experience, he has performed at major venues and festivals across Europe, America, and Asia. Alex has collaborated with Grammy Award winners including Jamie Cullum and Charlotte Church, and his arranging credits span collaborations with Grammy winner Vince Mendoza and the Dutch Metropole Orkest, showcasing his compositional prowess across jazz, pop, and classical ensembles. He formed the Alex Woods Quartet five years ago during his time living in New York, where he composed a significant body of original music influenced by his experiences in the city. His original New York ensemble featured Billy Test (piano), Marty Kenney (bass), and Andreas Svendsen (drums), all of whom were fellow students at the Manhattan School of Music. Now presenting his music in Hong Kong, the quartet features three highly regarded musicians from the local jazz scene: pianist Bowen Li, double bassist Nelson Fung, and drummer Samuel Chan. Alex's work has been featured on Jazz FM Canada and BBC TV and Radio. He has written for Big Band, string quartet, and solo harp. Beyond performing, he holds a teaching position at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and has served as a guest artist and clinician at various schools and universities around the world. His performances blend rigorous academic training with international touring experience, creating a distinctive and personal modern jazz sound centered on original compositions and classic standards.
