Minyen Hsieh is a leading figure in Taiwan’s contemporary jazz and improvisational scene. A graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, Hsieh is celebrated for his "chameleon-like" ability to master genres ranging from traditional jazz to avant-garde. A multi-award winner at the Golden Melody and Golden Indie Music Awards, his notable works include Firry Path and collaborations with Japanese free jazz legends. Through projects like Non-Confined Space, Hsieh continues to push musical boundaries with a fearless, exploratory spirit.
Minyen Hsieh is a prominent Taiwanese saxophonist, composer, and a central figure in the region's jazz and improvisational music scene. Regarded as one of the most important figures in Taiwan’s contemporary music landscape, Hsieh earned his Master’s degree and Post-Master's diploma in Jazz Saxophone from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Upon returning to Taiwan in 2011, he won the 2012 Taichung International Saxophone Competition. Since the 2014 release of his debut album, "Firry Path," he has been celebrated for his chameleon-like ability to find the perfect sound within any ensemble, spanning genres from traditional jazz to avant-garde and experimental music. A frequent performer at venues like Sappho Live Jazz, his work—both as a leader and a collaborator—has garnered significant critical acclaim, including multiple Golden Melody Awards and Golden Indie Music Awards. His notable projects include international collaborations with Japanese free jazz legends Hiroshi Yamazaki, Yoshihide Otomo, and Takashi Sugawa on the album "Punctum Visus – 視角." He is also a founding member of the experimental group Non-Confined Space and continues to challenge traditional frameworks through his tireless performance and exploration of new musical territories.
