Minyen Hsieh is a central figure in Taiwan’s jazz and improvisational scene. A graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, he has earned international acclaim across Asia. His milestone albums, 'Firry Path' and the award-winning 'As Pure as Water', showcase his mastery of the saxophone. A recipient of both Golden Melody and Golden Indie Music Awards, Hsieh’s versatile artistry spans from avant-garde projects like 'Non-Confined Space' to high-profile international performances.
Minyen Hsieh is a highly regarded, award-winning Taiwanese saxophonist, composer, and tireless performer who has become a central figure in Taiwan’s jazz and improvisational music scene. Born in Taipei in 1981, he holds a Master’s degree and a Post-Master’s Diploma in Jazz Saxophone from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. His musical reach extends across Asia, including Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and China. In 2012, Hsieh won the Taichung International Saxophone Competition. His 2014 album 'Firry Path' is considered a milestone in Taiwanese jazz history. In 2017, he was invited to perform 'Inheritance' (薪傳) for the extinguishing of the flame at the Taipei Summer Universiade Closing Ceremony. His second solo album, 'As Pure as Water' (上善若水), released in 2018, earned him the Best Musician award at the 10th Golden Indie Music Awards. That same year, his collaboration with Tokyo Chuo-Line on the album 'Lines & Stains' won Best Instrumental Album at the 30th Golden Melody Awards. Known for influencing the avant-garde jazz subgenre, Hsieh performs on soprano saxophone, penny whistle, and finger cymbals, and is a key member of the project 'Non-Confined Space'. He is a frequent performer at venues such as Blue Note Taipei and Sappho Live Jazz.
