Lin WeiSheng is a distinguished Taiwanese jazz musician celebrated for his versatile command of both guitar and double bass. Born in Tainan, Taiwan, he graduated from the Philosophy Department of National Taiwan University before moving to the United States to pursue graduate studies in jazz. In 2001, he earned his Master of Music from the State University of New York at Purchase College. Following his graduation, he established a professional career in New York City, becoming one of the few Taiwanese musicians at the time to work full-time in the competitive NYC jazz scene. During his tenure in New York, Lin collaborated with a prestigious roster of jazz masters, including Ralph Lalama, Bill Mays, Bob Dorough, Joe Cohn, Bobby Porcelli, T.S. Monk, Lewis Nash, Eddie Bert, Jon Faddis, Don Sickler, Grant Stewart, and Doug Munro. His performances spanned major East Coast venues such as the Blue Note, Birdland, Iridium, Lenox Lounge, Up Over Jazz Café, Cleopatra’s Needle, and the Deer Head Inn. His musicality earned international acclaim from major jazz media. In October 2006, his album "Gone With the Wind" received a highly favorable review from critic Donald Elfman in All About Jazz New York, and in July 2007, All About Jazz selected him as one of their "Listen Up!" featured musicians. Beyond his musical achievements, Lin has been deeply committed to animal welfare. In 2014, he returned to Taiwan to care for a senior rescued dog named "Shiung Bao." While continuing his advocacy as a volunteer, he remains a prominent figure in the Taiwanese jazz scene, frequently performing at Blue Note Taipei. He is particularly known for his guitar trio performances, where he delivers sophisticated interpretations of jazz standards with technical precision and deep emotional resonance.
