Kung Chi Shing is a prominent music presenter and speaker deeply rooted in the local arts scene. Kung Chi Shing is a Hong Kong-born composer, performer, music activist, and sound artist who has become a pivotal figure in the region's experimental and contemporary music scenes. He studied classical music and composition in the United States under the tutelage of Allen Trubitt and the renowned composer George Crumb. Currently serving as the Head of Contemporary Performance at the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), Kung has been instrumental in shaping the local cultural landscape since joining as Artistic Associate (Music) in 2015. He is the visionary behind several of Hong Kong's most innovative music programs, including Freespace Fest, Freespace Happening, and the acclaimed Freespace Jazz Fest, all of which aim to nurture local talent and expand audience horizons. Beyond his administrative and curatorial roles, Kung is a dedicated music presenter and educator. At the 'Ryuichi Sakamoto Piano Night' hosted at CODA Jazz Kissa, he provided in-depth commentary and guided listeners through the intricate solo piano works of the late master. His artistic practice continues to push boundaries through projects like the Freespace Noise Fest and collaborations with artists such as pianist Jenny Ng, focusing on experimental live performances and preserving the legacies of influential musical figures through curated listening and performance experiences.
