Ying-Da Chen is a Taiwanese jazz guitarist and composer known for blending chamber music aesthetics with theatrical atmospheres. A graduate of the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Chen leads the Ying-Da Chen Quartet, producing acclaimed works like "Sentimental Animal" and "Off-Peak Hours." A multi-time Golden Indie Music Award winner and nominee, his narrative-driven compositions explore profound themes of life and emotion, making him a pivotal figure in Taiwan’s contemporary jazz scene.
Ying-Da Chen is a Taiwanese jazz guitarist and composer known for exploring the sonic mysteries between chamber music and theatrical atmospheres. Between 2008 and 2012, Chen studied jazz guitar performance at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Upon returning to Taiwan, he formed the Ying-Da Chen Quartet and has since released several acclaimed albums, including "R.E.M Moods," "Sentimental Animal," and "Off-Peak Hours." His work has been consistently recognized by the Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA), where he has won Best Jazz Single and received multiple nominations. His more recent project, "Have You Ever Heard of Beige?" continues his exploration of narrative-driven jazz composition. A seasoned performer in the local scene, Chen frequently brings his unique musical vision to venues such as Sappho Live Jazz.
