Andrew W. Jaffe is a distinguished jazz composer, performer, and educator with over thirty years of leadership in jazz pedagogy. A former chair of the Jazz Department at Williams College, Jaffe has collaborated with legends like Branford Marsalis. His acclaimed discography includes the Brazilian-influenced "Chorinhoso" and the cross-cultural "Arc." Known for his lush orchestrations and harmonic depth, Jaffe continues to bridge academic excellence with vibrant international performance.
Andrew W. Jaffe is an active jazz composer, performer, and recording artist who has been a leader in jazz pedagogy for over thirty years. He has held faculty positions at the Berklee College of Music (1977-81), the University of Massachusetts, Amherst Graduate program, and served as the Chair of the Jazz Department at Williams College. His contributions to the field were recognized with the "Outstanding Contribution to Jazz Education" award from the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE). His discography includes the 2020 release "Chorinhoso" (Playscape Label), a compilation of original Brazilian-influenced compositions praised by Downbeat for its lush orchestrations and harmonic weightiness. His 2016 album "Arc" featured his original compositions and collaborations with the Interestring Quartet from Taipei. Other notable recordings include "Manhattan Projections" (featuring former students Branford Marsalis and Wallace Roney), "Double Helix" (a piano duo with the late Tom McClung), and "An Imperfect Storm" (featuring the Bill Lowe-Andy Jaffe Repertory Big Band and the Slovak Radio Orchestra). Jaffe has worked with a wide array of distinguished musicians, including Jimmy Greene, Kris Allen, John Clark, Bruce Williamson, Marty Jaffe, and Jonathan Barber. He has also performed at international venues such as Blue Note Taipei.
