Dan Levelle
Dan LaVelle is a seasoned guitarist who has helped shape Hong Kong’s international music scene since 1987. Having toured with The Manhattan Transfer and collaborated with Eric Marienthal, his style blends R&B, Brazilian rhythms, and jazz improvisation. Currently performing in a trio with vocalist Elodie Lee and bassist Jimmy Pittman, LaVelle focuses on jazz standards and Bossa Nova, delivering an intimate experience defined by spontaneous interplay and warm musical chemistry.
Dan LaVelle is a seasoned guitarist whose musical journey began in the United States, where he toured with renowned groups such as The Manhattan Transfer. After spending time in Japan, he relocated to Hong Kong in 1987, becoming one of the pioneering Western musicians to help shape the city’s international music scene. His distinctive playing style seamlessly blends elements of R&B, Brazilian rhythms, and jazz improvisation. Throughout his career, he has shared the stage with Grammy Award winner Eric Marienthal and has also composed songs for various Cantonese pop artists, reflecting a broad and deeply rooted musical vision. Currently, Dan performs in a trio alongside Taiwanese jazz vocalist Elodie Lee and Chicago-born bassist Jimmy Pittman. Together, they focus on a repertoire of classic jazz standards and Bossa Nova favorites. Their performances emphasize musical chemistry, attentive listening, and spontaneous interplay, creating a warm, relaxed, and intimate listening experience.
