Ricky Wong Trio
Ricky Wong is a versatile Hong Kong-based pianist and educator specializing in jazz and classical music. A protégé of Ted Lo, Wong is the founder of the acclaimed fusion group maRK and has performed at major international festivals including the Hong Kong International Jazz Festival. Known for his sophisticated blend of improvisation and composition, he has received awards for his film scores and continues to bridge genres through innovative projects like the Jazz Composers' Lab.
Ricky Wong is a professional musician and educator based in Hong Kong, specializing in jazz and classical piano. A student of the renowned Ted Lo, Wong has developed a versatile career spanning performance, accompaniment, improvisation, songwriting, and movie soundtrack arrangement. In December 2012, he formed the band ‘maRK’ alongside fellow musicians Marcus Ho, Anna Fan, and Kenny KC Lin. The group released their debut EP ‘Jump Start’ in early 2013, featuring Wong’s original compositions. With maRK, he has performed at numerous prestigious events, including the Beijing Jazz Music Week, Beishan Jazz Festival, Hong Kong International Jazz Festival, and International Jazz Day concerts. Beyond his work with maRK, Wong is active in the collaborative scene, notably participating in the "Jazz Composers' Lab Vol.2" with guitarist Alan Kwan, where they presented an improvised dialogue between jazz and classical music featuring his original "Piano Trio with Viola and Cello No.1." His creative achievements include being awarded Best Original Music (Gold) at the Hong Kong Student’s Short Film Competition.
