Edgar Ho Organ Trio
The Edgar Ho Organ Trio brings a modern twist to the classic organ trio format. Led by London-based pianist Edgar Ho on the Hammond SK1, the ensemble blends traditional bebop with blues-inflected contemporary improvisation. Featuring Berklee graduate Jonas Cho on saxophone and imaginative drummer Jerry Kan, the trio creates an intimate, driving soundscape where the organ’s rich textures and sustained low-end provide a unique foundation for high-level musical conversation.
The Edgar Ho Organ Trio brings together international talent and Hong Kong’s rising jazz stars, centered around the distinctive sound of the Hammond SK1 organ. Making his Hong Kong debut in the jazz organ trio format, London-based pianist Edgar Ho is an emerging figure on the London jazz scene. Known for weaving contemporary elements into a foundation rooted in traditional bebop, Ho’s playing is influenced by legends such as Oscar Peterson. His performance style is characterized by fluid lines and blues-inflected improvisation, providing a solid jazz grounding and the sustained, driving low-end tension unique to the organ. Joining him are two of the most notable new voices in the local jazz community. Saxophonist Jonas Cho is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and a recipient of the Andy McGhee Scholarship; his 2025 debut album 'Daydreamer' received significant critical acclaim. Drummer Jerry Kan, who possesses a strong background in classical training, is known for a flexible and imaginative rhythmic approach. Kan has been active across various local ensembles and was selected for the Siena Jazz Summer Workshop in Italy. The jazz organ trio remains one of the most captivating ensemble formats in the genre. Utilizing the Hammond SK1 to faithfully recreate the classic signature sound and the swirling rotary effect of a Leslie speaker, the trio allows the organ to simultaneously handle harmony, bass, and melody, creating an intimate space for close musical conversation with the saxophone and drums.
